Piquet: Renault deal marks 'new chapter'

Nelson Piquet Jr has described his test role with Renault as a 'new chapter' in his career

The GP2 title contender has previously tested Formula One machinery for Williams and Honda, but this is the first time that he has secured a season-long deal with an F1 team.

"I am so happy to have signed as a test driver for the Renault F1 team," said Piquet.

"I have worked my whole life to get to this level and it feels like it is the start of the next chapter of my career."

Renault confirmed this morning that Giancarlo Fisichella and Heikki Kovalainen will race for the team next season, with Piquet joining Ricardo Zonta in the test squad.

"I am very much looking forward to working with the team and the other drivers," said Piquet.

"I know Heikki from GP2, Ricardo is a friend and both he and Giancarlo are very experienced, so I will be able to learn a lot from them.

"I will be putting all my efforts into working hard, learning everything I can and doing a good job for Renault so that I can help the team as much as possible."

Piquet goes into this weekend's GP2 title decider 10 points behind series leader Lewis Hamilton.
