Penalty scheme goes to vote
An overhaul of the Formula 1 driver-penalty system could get the green light this week when team bosses meet motorsport chief Max Mosley. This is according to a story in this week's AUTOSPORT Magazine
The matter is one of a number of topics up for discussion tomorrow (Friday), and sources have claimed that the new system of imposing driver penalty points has a chance of being voted through. It would need unanimous support from the teams to be implemented in time for 2004.
Under the system, drivers would get points on their licenses for infringements, rather than a drive-through penalty in races. If a driver exceeded a certain number of points over a fixed period then he would receive a race ban.
There is also expected to be discussion on changes to the current Concorde agreement, the future of the French and Bahrain Grands Prix, as well as the ruling that Friday test drivers need to have less that six races' experience.
