No time for celebration for Button

Jenson Button will be celebrating his maiden Grand Prix victory at 36,000 feet tonight rather than with his Honda team thanks to a sponsor function in Shanghai tomorrow

The Briton, who ended his 113-race victory drought with a brilliant win in tricky conditions at the Hungaroring, had to rush out of the circuit on Sunday night so he could catch a jet to China.

Honda Racing title sponsor British American Tobacco had had their promotional event in Shanghai arranged for months - and there was no chance of Button cancelling despite the surprise result in Hungary.

But despite being forced to delay the celebrations with his team, Button was clearly relishing the moment.

"That was the most crazy way to win your first Grand Prix," said a delighted Button this evening, having stormed through from 14 th on the grid.

"I am going to the PR event in Shanghai now but after that I will be having a bit of a holiday, and I want to make sure that I can enjoy myself then and savour the moment."

Button needed no encouraging to claim that his maiden win was the best moment of what has been a difficult year for both himself and the Honda Racing team.

"This is just fantastic for the whole team," he said. "Over the last few years we have had some downs but this is clearly the highpoint.

"We are definitely going to win again. It's been a tough season for us, and it has been very, very stressful. So to get this win is great for everyone here. We are not going to be winning every race from now on, but we will go on from here.

"It was just crazy out there. The circuit was so slippery, but it was such an enjoyable race. The car felt good and I knew quite early on that if we got the strategy right then it could be something special."
