No Ferrari Let-Up, Warns Todt

Ferrari sporting director Jean Todt has warned that there will be no let-up from Ferrari this season and insisted they are focused on improving the dominant F2002 car even further.

Ferrari sporting director Jean Todt has warned that there will be no let-up from Ferrari this season and insisted they are focused on improving the dominant F2002 car even further.

German Michael Schumacher raced to the quickest ever World Championship after scoring his eighth win in 11 races at Magny-Cours on Sunday. But despite wrapping up the drivers' crown, Todt insisted that Ferrari will be focused on improving the performance of the F2002 as they look to claim a fourth straight manufacturers' title.

"Each step we do on the 2002 car will help us for 2003 so I think it would be the worst mistake to say 'let's stop developing this car'," Todt said.

"We have to develop this car, the engine, the tyres and the advantage we will get from now until the end of the season we will be able to carry that to next year's car and next year's engine and next year's tyres. It's an on-going process.

"It's not our approach (to be more relaxed). Maybe it would be better, sometimes I feel it would be nicer to be more smiling, more dedicated for social life but it's not our approach, we are not built for that. Sometimes I wish I could be but I'm not able to. Everybody has his own limits."

Ferrari have a 62-point advantage over Williams in the Constructors' Championship after the French Grand Prix.

Todt believes that with Rubens Barrichello and Schumacher behind the wheel they should achieve their goal and also insisted he desperately wants the Brazilian to finish runner-up to Schumacher in the drivers' race.

"Definitely the manufacturers' championship," he said when asked of the target for the rest of the season. "You know with 62 points in hand it's comfortable advantage and really I want to see Rubens in a strong position.

"He has been doing a tremendous season. He's much more comfortable in the team than he was in the past. It's a fantastic relationship between him and Michael.

"He had a big admiration for Michael and Michael respects him a lot. Probably he was a bit more isolated in the past compared to all the people who worked together for a longer time. Now he's really part of the whole structure."
