Nico Hulkenberg still sure Sauber move was the right one

Nico Hulkenberg is still convinced that Sauber's 2013 car has the potential to be a regular top-10 runner and that his switch into the squad has not been futile

The German admitted at the end of last year that moving from Force India to the Swiss team had not been an easy choice, saying he had been swung by Sauber being "very strong for podiums" in the early stages of 2012.

After four races however Hulkenberg has scored just two points finishes, with eighth in Malaysia his best result.

Force India has comfortably outmatched that, with Paul di Resta in the hunt for a podium in Bahrain.

Hulkenberg insists that Sauber can develop into a consistent frontrunner, as proved by the fact he led for spells in both the Malaysian and Chinese grands prix.

"It's a good feeling to be leading a grand prix - its shows you must have done something right," he said. "It's definitely a good sign.

"It's a car with potential. It's a top 10 car and we can develop it into a consistent points-scoring car, I'm sure about that.

"It's our job to get it out of it but we're definitely not at the end in terms of development of the car."

Hulkenberg admitted he had moved to Sauber with the hope of occasionally fighting for victory, but said his main ambition had always been to pick up regular points.

"I am looking for wins, but I didn't come here to say we're going to win every race, that wouldn't be realistic," he explained.

"I would have said, this year, the main target is to improve the car and make it into a car that can be in the points every weekend.

"We'll see afterwards what more we can do."
