Nakajima admits he must get results

Kazuki Nakajima has admitted that he is in need of a decent result in the final four races of the season if he is to stand a good chance of remaining in Formula 1 next year

The Williams driver is likely to get replaced by Nico Hulkenberg for 2010, and has been trying hard to secure sponsorship funds back home in Japan to try and help his chances of staying in F1.

But although there remains great uncertainty about the driver market for next year, with several key seats and drivers having not yet been confirmed, Nakajima concedes he will need more than just money to find a seat.

"Nothing has come up yet, but I'm still pushing hard to get something," said Nakajima. "I need to get better results; I'm sure my performance is better than last year but I haven't had the results, so that's a bit of a problem.

"For the driver market, nobody seems to have decided on anything. If some people make a move, then things will start to happen after that."

Nakajima remains part of Toyota's young driver development programme, so is leaving his future plans up to them for now. And, he has admitted he would love the opportunity to remain at Williams for another year, even though the outfit are considering a switch to Renault engines.

When asked if he felt there was an opportunity for him at the Grove-based team, he said: "I hope so. It's their decision, though, and the results haven't being going well for me.

"But I'm sure there are still some things I can show them. This team has become like a home for me, I know all the guys, so I would like to stay.

"My performances are certainly better than last year in terms of qualifying and in the races. But also the car's performance has been better than last year. So everything is getting there, just somehow the results haven't come. It's been a bit frustrating sometimes. "
