Mosley holds onto FIA presidency
Max Mosley has been re-elected as the president of world motorsport's governing body the FIA for his third consecutive four-year term
Mosley was expected to hold onto his position, especially due to the fact that no opposition had come forward to stand against him. The 61-year-old's continuation at the head of the FIA was announced in Koln, Germany today (Friday).
Mosley said before votes were cast that he planned to restructure the FIA were he to be re-elected. As such, a new position of a second deputy president has been created to take care of road car issues. American Robert L. Darbelnet has been elected to take on the new role of deputy president Touring and Automobile.
Marco Piccinini has been re-elected as the second deputy president in charge of sport. The role of his two deputies is intended to allow Mosley to concentrate on road safety issues.
The World Council also voted to make an amendment to the international sporting code, which means the media is now to be granted access to hearings at the International Court of Appeal. The appeal court is often used to give verdicts concerning on-track incidents.
