Montoya slams penalty for collision

Juan Pablo Montoya has slammed the drive-through penalty he was served with in the Malaysian Grand Prix after touching the Ferrari of Michael Schumacher at the first corner

Poleman Schumacher chopped across Montoya on the run to the first corner, but Montoya turned in side-by-side with the reigning world champion. Montoya, on the outside, appeared to leave him a car's width of room but Schumacher's front-left wheel and wing came into contact with Montoya's right-front wheel.

Schumacher lost his front wing in the contact, while Montoya dropped out of the top 10. The Colombian climbed back into the top six, but was given a drive-through penalty for the collision.

"Why? Why?" he asked over the radio, and when told it was for the incident with Schumacher he replied: "This is bullshit, I gave him room."

Montoya rejoined the race in 10th, but recovered to finish second. He said later: "I was a bit pissed off to get the penalty because he [Schumacher] understeered into me. I think it was very unfair."

After the race, Williams technical director Patrick Head said: "I think we'll be having a talk with a few people behind the scenes. I think it was a bit hard, given things that have happened [unpunished] on other occasions."
