Montoya rues his lost weekend

Williams-BMW ace Juan Pablo Montoya was left to ponder a terrible weekend in Hungary by trailing home in 11th place at the Hungaroring after a collision and two off-track excursions damaged his car

Montoya's bad day began when he made a poor start from the dirty side of the starting grid, but he was then clipped by Jenson Button's Renault on the exit of the second corner. But a trip over the vicious kerbs at Turn 12 caused damage to his car, as did another off into the gravel at Turn 3, which ruined his chances of scoring a point.

"This wasn't my weekend," he said. "Right at the start someone hit me, then I went off on a kerb and lost a piece of bodywork. Due to the on-going understeer I had, my left elbow is hurting.

"From time to time today my car was almost impossible to drive. I couldn't get a good balance for the whole weekend," he added.

Williams' chief operations engineer Sam Michael said: "When Juan went off he damaged his car and thought he had a puncture. That was why he pitted so early. But he had to continue with damaged bodywork on the car."
