Montoya Relying on Michelin for British GP Success

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya is expecting a tough British Grand Prix next week and said that the performance of the Michelin tyres will be crucial for his Williams team.

Montoya and teammate Ralf Schumacher struggled during the European Grand Prix last Sunday despite securing the first front row lockout of the year in qualifying. Both drivers complained about the handling of their Williams, whose rear Michelin tyres were badly worn.

Schumacher, however, cleared Michelin of blame, saying that it was the car's fault. Colombian Montoya has predicted that the French rubber will again be a determinant factor at the Silverstone race next week.

"I think Silverstone is going to be a hard race and our success really depends on the tyres, which are going to be the key to the result," said Montoya. "Hopefully it doesn't rain, then all should be well for us. We didn't qualify particularly strongly but performed really well on Sunday (in 2001).

"I really feel like making up for the last three disappointing races after as many brilliant qualifying sessions, but the British Grand Prix promises to be a tough one."

Montoya has failed to finish the last three Grands Prix after having started from pole position in all of them. Now the Colombian is a massive 49 points behind Championship leader Michael Schumacher.
