Montoya: Old Ferrari could be an error

Williams-BMW ace Juan Pablo Montoya claims that Ferrari might have made an error in opting to use its 2001 cars at this weekend's Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, rather than press ahead with its innovative 2002 machine

The Colombian says that if Williams had turned up with last year's cars then they would struggle to make an impression at the front of the grid. On that basis, he believes that Ferrari, which has opted to run its F2001 in the interests of reliability, could struggle this weekend.

"It's positive for us and negative for them if you really think about it," said Montoya. "If we came here with last year's car we'd end up 10th on the grid. They're starting with a car that last year had a lot of potential. But if they didn't change the car a lot from last year, it might not be the winning car."

Montoya has also said that he is not going to solely focus on beating reigning world champion Michael Schumacher, as threats will come from other drivers too.

"Apart from Michael, you've got to beat everybody else as well," said Montoya. "You've got to focus on driving the car, not beating Michael. There are 21 other cars out there. Where you need to focus is in making sure you do the right job. If you do the right job, the results will come."
