Juan Pablo Montoya led a Williams-BMW one-two in Saturday's pre-qualifying session for the German Grand Prix as World Champion Michael Schumacher disappointed his horn-blowing home fans by finishing down in 11th.

Colombian Montoya set a fastest time of 1:13.391 in temperatures of 25-degrees Celsius to finish 0.031 seconds ahead of Antonio Pizzonia, who is making his debut for Williams as a replacement for the injured Ralf Schumacher.

Third-placed Jenson Button finished 0.144 seconds back in his BAR-Honda with Spaniard Fernando Alonso fourth in the lead Renault and Scot David Coulthard fifth for McLaren-Mercedes.

Frenchman Olivier Panis, the penultimate man out on track in the session, put his new Toyota sixth fastest with Italian Jarno Trulli, who has been tipped to move to Panis' team next year, seventh in the second Renault.

Coulthard's teammate Kimi Raikkonen, of Finland, finished eighth with Brazilian Felipe Massa leading Sauber team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella, of Italy, as Sauber finished ninth and tenth.
