Montoya Confident of Beating Teammate

Juan Pablo Montoya is confident of coming out on top in the battle of the Williams-BMW drivers this season and downplayed his teammate Ralf Schumacher's current points advantage.

Juan Pablo Montoya is confident of coming out on top in the battle of the Williams-BMW drivers this season and downplayed his teammate Ralf Schumacher's current points advantage.

Montoya won the Monaco Grand Prix this year, while Ralf Schumacher had two wins and three pole positions and is currently ahead of Montoya in the Drivers' Championship by six points. But Montoya stated the lead does not necessarily mean Schumacher will be the team's number one driver.

"I don't see Ralf taking the team lead," Montoya said. "We are just six points apart. I could have won Austria and that is ten points. I would be ahead of him. You add up the races I have not finished and I should be ahead of him. In qualifying he is a bit stronger but I have been a lot more consistently at the front.

"There are races where he has been 17th on the grid this year and I have been a lot further in front. I have been consistent all year whereas this year he has been up and he has been down. At the moment he is high, he is up, but he might go down again. I am not very concerned about it."

He added: "I think the team's ambition - and this is not what you hear from everybody - is that the most important thing for Williams is the Constructors' Championship, not the Drivers'. And they are not going to throw that away if we start taking each other off, so I have got to start scoring good points every race."
