Monaco GP: Fernando Alonso favourite among GP Predictor players

Forty per cent of the GPP players reckon the Ferrari driver will secure back-to-back victories following his win in Spain two weeks ago. That's eight per cent more than have opted for Sebastian Vettel.

Interestingly only 10 per cent of players think a Mercedes driver can win the race. Both Lewis Hamilton (seven per cent) and Nico Rosberg (three per cent) have been strong in qualifying this year but suffered tyre degradation in the races.

The GPP experts Karun Chandhok and Timo Glock reckon that the Mercedes pair could be more of a factor in Monaco, where qualifying is critical and overtaking is at a premium.

"The Mercedes cars have been very fast over one lap and also in the slow-speed corners like sector three in Barcelona," said Chandhok. "All this means that they should be odds on for another front row lockout as Nico and Lewis are both very fast at Monaco.

"The tricky bit will be if the team decide to play the hare and tortoise game by asking whoever is second to hold up the pack as overtaking is pretty much impossible while the leader runs away. If I was on the pitwall I would certainly be thinking about it!"

Glock agreed, adding: "I've bet on a victory for Rosberg, he grew up in Monte Carlo and knows every corner. In addition, his Mercedes is fast in qualifying - and that's important here because overtaking is almost impossible."
