Minardi faces D-Day over TV cash
Formula 1's leading team bosses are understood to have been given a deadline of today (Monday) to give their reasons why Minardi should not receive the £8million of television rights money that the Anglo-Italian team believes it is owed
Minardi boss Paul Stoddart had included the money in his budget for the second half of 2002, and says it is vital to his team if it is to complete the season. But his F1 rivals are believed to have agreed to share the money between themselves instead, and the issue was discussed at a meeting of the F1 team bosses last Thursday.
FIA president Max Mosley and F1 commercial rights supremo Bernie Ecclestone are understood to be supportive of Minardi's situation, especially in light of the way the Prost GP team went bust before the start of the season. The £8million in question is the money that Prost would have received if it had made the grid this year.
Should the rival teams not come up with satisfactory reasons why Minardi should not receive the money, FIA boss Mosley is thought likely to instruct the funds to be released to the F1 minnows.
