Mika guns for win - if allowed...

Mika Hakkinen is gunning to break his Silverstone duck in Sunday's British Grand Prix. But he again hinted he'll make way for McLaren team mate David Coulthard if the team orders it.

The Finn qualified on the front row alongside Michael Schumacher's Ferrari for the first time in six races and said his sights are set on his first Silverstone Formula 1 victory.

"I have never won the British Grand Prix and I would like to win one," he said. "I was a little bit disappointed not to be on pole - but not too much.

"It is a long time since I have been this close to pole and been second," he added. "I am very pleased because the performance of the car was very good and it was very enjoyable to be able to fight."

He believed his final crack at pole was spoiled by traffic, saying: "I think I lost time in the last two corners because I was stuck behind a Benetton but I haven't checked the data yet.

"It gives me a little bit of extra confidence to be starting on the front row," he added. "We have been good on the starts - well not always... But I am confident for tomorrow. The performance of the cars is very consistent and the tyres are looking very good."

Hakkinen failed to get the better of Schumacher, but he outgunned team mate Coulthard for the first time in six races. His hopes of a maiden 2001 win, however, could be academic - Hakkinen will almost certainly be ordered to move over if Coulthard is on his heels in the final stages of the race.

The double world champion is already out of the title chase, having notched up just nine points in the first 10 races - while Coulthard desperately needs a victory to keep in touch with Schumacher, who is 13 points ahead. Hakkinen would need to win all of the remaining seven rounds with Schumacher - the winner of six races already - failing to score a single point.
