McNish Angry after Disappointing Home Race

Briton Allan McNish was disappointed after he failed to start what would have been his first home Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday after his Toyota stalled on the starting grid.

The Scot, who may not get the chance to enter another British Grand Prix if his one-year contract with Toyota is not renewed, lined up 15th on the grid but his engine cut out and he was left stranded as the others roared away.

The 32-year-old was pushed back to the pitlane and, after mechanics tried in vain to fix the problem, retired.

"It was just like the first race of the season in Australia," McNish told ITV television. "There was a problem with the system. I'm extremely disappointed and angry because we should have had this under control.

"Basically the lights went green and there was a problem with the clutch and the engine stalled. Needless to say I am extremely disappointed, not only for myself and the team but for the fans supporting me here at my home race."

McNish had spoken before the race of how much he was looking forward to racing at home, comparing the experience to the thrill of making his Formula One debut this season.

Teammate Mika Salo also retired from the race on lap 16.
