McLaren F1 team's Eric Boullier agrees with comments by Alain Prost

Eric Boullier agrees that McLaren needs to "rethink" its approach to become successful again in Formula 1, following recent criticism of the Woking team by its former driver Alain Prost

The four times world champion said during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend that traditional Formula 1 powerhouses McLaren and Ferrari were being outfoxed by the greater focus of newer teams like Red Bull and Mercedes, and needed to "rethink" their approach to the sport in order to become successful again.

Boullier has begun a significant overhaul of McLaren since he joined from Lotus over the winter, and said this was beginning to pay dividends for the Woking-based team.

"I agree with the comments of Alain and this is what I've been doing now since I started," Boullier said.

"The last couple of races we have seriously pushed on the development, and you can see on the car.

"This is going to [continue] through the next races.

"It is due to the change of direction and what we have been picking up in terms of performance."

He said the upturn in McLaren's form at Monaco, where it scored its first points since the Malaysian GP in March, was also related to this work, though it was mainly thanks to the characteristics of the Monte Carlo street circuit.

"The double points finish of Monaco was mostly due to the track layout suiting our car," Boullier added.

"[But] it's also rewarding the hard work we are doing here in Woking."
