McLaren Confident of Keeping Momentum
McLaren boss Ron Dennis is confident that his team can maintain the kind of dominant performance that helped Kimi Raikkonen grab victory in the Spanish Grand Prix as the outfit set their sights on hunting down Renault
Raikkonen led from lights to flag at the Circuit de Catalunya to secure his and the team's first win of the season.
And, on the back of Raikkonen's pole position and dominant early race pace at Imola, the team believe they now have a car capable of challenging for regular wins.
"I would think that we can keep this momentum going," said Dennis on ITV. "We have a good racing car and had a good step on the engine here - and we are confident with the improvements that we have in the pipeline.
"We are delighted with the win, but more delighted with the nature of the win...We are here to win and that is what we have done."
Dennis has also paid tribute to the improving performance of Raikkonen - as he joked about paddock speculation suggesting that Ferrari would prefer to take Fernando Alonso rather than his Finnish driver as an eventual successor to Michael Schumacher.
"As long as Alonso goes to Ferrari that would be a good place to have him," smiled Dennis, making a clear reference to Ferrari's current struggles. "Clearly if Michael has any intention of retiring in the next few years then they are going to be aggressively looking for the next driver.
"Kimi is now coming to his peak as a driver and he had a difficult beginning to the season."
