Massa: Ferrari right where we want

Although main rivals McLaren outpaced them in the dry final day of testing at Barcelona in Spain this week, Massa thinks that his team are in a comfortable position with how development of the F2008 is going.

But despite being happy with the improvement that a new aerodynamic package has brought to the team, Massa thinks they still need to work hard to fight off the challenge from McLaren.

When asked how much of a time boost the new aerodynamic parts brought, Massa said: "It's hard to be precise. Maybe a couple of tenths, but it's hard to make a precise comparison.

"However it's definitely what we expected. But we must carry on working to develop other things, and also to work on the car's set-up. But we are where we wanted to be."

Massa claimed that the slight edge McLaren had in the times on Thursday was not a concern, although he is well aware about how strong their rivals will be.

"There's nothing to say (about the times). We've finished our program; we've done what we wanted. In the end, lap times are important but they aren't the most important thing.

"We are behind by a few thousandths, so we have things to improve on the car, and things to develop for the future. As I said, we are where we wanted to be, but we can't give up and we must carry on working."

Massa is working on race simulation work at Barcelona today, with Ferrari enjoying a private day of testing at the Circuit de Catalunya.

With the form of Ferrari in testing over the past few weeks suggesting that the team are the current outfit to beat, Massa said he was not worried by any extra pressure placed on them by the media.

"Absolutely not. Last year we were always the fastest and they would say Ferrari was the team to beat. So nothing changes, the approach is the same. We must think about doing our job and not think about what it's being written or said.

"We'll see in Melbourne. I don't want to say anything before the first race because we may get some surprises."
