Lotus's E22 2014 Formula 1 car poised for track debut at Jerez

Lotus will become the final team to run its 2014 Formula 1 car when the new E22 hits the track at Jerez in Spain on Friday

The Enstone-based outfit skipped the first pre-season test at the Spanish venue last month while it spent more time completing its car.

But with that work now finished, the team is conducting a shakedown during a filming day.

Analysis: Lotus's twin-tusk theory

Pastor Maldonado will drive, but will be limited to a maximum distance of 100km and will have to run on demonstration tyres.

The Venezuelan wrote on his Twitter feed: "Finally back to the track work, planing a filming day in Jerez today. Looking forward to drive the new E22."

Lotus's fortunes in the filming day are likely to attract greater interest than normal because of the troubled time that its engine supplier Renault has had recently.

With Red Bull having struggled to complete 21 laps at the Jerez test, if Lotus manages a decent amount of mileage it could point to progress having been made on the power unit front.

It is unclear if Lotus will reveal more images of the car today, but the team did release a teaser trailer on YouTube that pointed towards an announcement at 5pm CET on Friday:
