Liuzzi blames safety car for missed points
Toro Rosso driver Vitantonio Liuzzi believes an error in the timing of his pitstop cost him the chance to score his first points of the season
"I think we picked the wrong moment to refuel," said Liuzzi after finishing the Monaco Grand Prix in 10th position. "We should have stopped earlier."
The Italian's race was spoiled by the safety car, which was deployed following the retirement of Mark Webber.
"At least we finished the race, but we were out of luck with the safety car, as it spoiled our strategy. Tenth place is quite a good result, but it is not acceptable when you think you we should have got points," added Liuzzi.
Teammate Scott Speed finished in 13th position, and with a bruised knee and a blister on his foot after a problem inside his cockpit.
"The first lap was awesome and I made up a couple of places," said Speed. "After that I just didn't have the pace to do anything more. In the early stages, we had a lot of problems with the rear end of the car. I was doing everything I could in terms of engine braking and brake bias to try and cure it. It got a bit better, but basically we were just slow.
"I'm finding it difficult to walk at the moment as my brake knee was rubbing against the monocoque all race long and I have a big blister on my foot. It was a very physical race, hard on your body because it's so bumpy and you move around all the time."
