Kubica not distracted by future talks

Robert Kubica has said he is not going to get distracted away from his task of turning BMW Sauber into winners by fresh talk about his future in Formula One

Autosport.com revealed earlier this week that Kubica is set to remain at his current team at least for another year, with BMW Sauber holding a firm option on him for 2009.

That situation means Kubica will likely have to hold off on interest from other teams until 2010 at the earliest, unless BMW Sauber take the unlikely route of selling on Kubica's contract to one of their rivals.

The man himself, however, has brushed off the talk about his future - and says it is the last thing he is worrying about at the moment

When asked by autosport.com about his plans for next year, he said: "I don't know. Every day there is some new rumour, it was same as two weeks ago, one week ago. I have no new information."

Kubica has drawn short of expressing any preference for his future plans, even though it is understood he firmly expects BMW Sauber to take up the option in his contract, which is believed to expire in September.

"I would just like the best option for me, but we will see what it will be. For now I am just concentrating on this year and doing the best job possible. Then we will have to see."

Kubica's reputation has been enhanced this year by a strong start to the season that has seen him outshine teammate Nick Heidfeld, who was the quicker driver last year.

Looking at the situation, Kubica believes his step forward has come simply from being more comfortable in the car than he was in 2007.

"This is a different year and last year I was struggling with a couple of issues. I don't think I was struggling with the tyres as most people said, I think that was just a good excuse - tyres are always a good excuse.

"The reality was a bit different and apparently we did some improvements for this year and I feel more comfortable in the car. I can extract more and set it up is much easier. It is a completely different story. I am working better with my engineer and you see my results."

And Kubica has not ruled out Heidfeld turning his situation around and becoming more of a threat to him later this year.

"The season is very long and I am racing others. The team are making quite a lot of effort to make him (Heidfeld) go quick, so I think sooner or later he will be in form as well.

"It is important for myself to do a good job and this year I feel I am doing a good job."
