Kimi has a lot on his plate, says Blundell
Former McLaren Formula 1 racer Mark Blundell says that Kimi Raikkonen will have "a lot on his plate" when he goes head-to-head with David Coulthard this year
Speaking at the AUTOSPORT International show at Birmingham's NEC, Blundell says the young Finn will face even more pressure with McLaren than second-year driver Jenson Button did at Benetton in 2001.
"Kimi did a great job with Sauber," said Blundell. "He handled the pressure with great maturity, but now he's in the spotlight at McLaren. He'll have a lot on his plate, and the expectations will be so much higher.
"It was evident last year that Jenson didn't get the job done, and now all eyes will be on Kimi to see if he does the same. Like Jenson, he won't have the experience to fall back on. I think Jenson knows where he weaknesses were, and he'll address that this season with Renault."
Blundell, who aims to mix his television work with assaults on the Indy 500 and Le Mans 24 Hours this year, also criticised the current level of excitement generated by Formula 1.
"I want to see more racing, not processions," he said. "I want Formula Ford at 200mph! I know F1 is the pinnacle in terms of technology, but it is a bit tedious at times."
