Jordan to Help Fisichella Land Top Team Drive

Team boss Eddie Jordan has said that he is trying to help driver Giancarlo Fisichella land a seat with one of Formula One's big three teams.

Team boss Eddie Jordan has said that he is trying to help driver Giancarlo Fisichella land a seat with one of Formula One's big three teams.

Italian Fisichella, who claimed his maiden victory in the Brazilian Grand Prix after 110 starts, has made no secret of his desire to have a shot at the world title.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and Jordan, owner of the Silverstone-based team, admitted he has spoken with Ferrari, Williams and McLaren about taking on Fisichella.

"I want to see my drivers in the top three teams," said Jordan, who has had Michael and Ralf Schumacher on his books as well as Rubens Barrichello, Eddie Irvine and Damon Hill.

"I would rather see him get a chance of the world championship than not. I don't want to stop my drivers getting to the top. I've spoken with the team bosses of the top three teams about it.

"I told him (Fisi) I would help him, but I would prefer him to stay with Jordan. We've had drivers of the calibre of Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill in the past."

Fisichella has been linked with a switch to BMW-Williams before the end of the season in place of former Jordan driver Ralf Schumacher, who has made a disappointing start to the year.

Jordan admitted that Fisichella's Brazilian victory, the team's fourth which arrived on their 200th Grand Prix, will help the continued recovery of his team.

The privateer team were struggling for cash at the start of the year, but the added bonus of a shock win has given Jordan a welcome boost.

"It has been a difficult last nine months, but we got the win, which Giancarlo deserved, and now the aim is to get as many points as possible to ensure we develop," Jordan added.

"I think he has proven he can be a race winner, but everyone already knew how good a racing driver he is. He is a very professional driver and I'm glad he is at Jordan and hope he is for a long time."
