Jordan Out for Revenge

Formula One team boss Eddie Jordan says he wants to show his former technical director Mike Gascoyne that he made a big mistake in joining Benetton.

"It will give me immense pleasure to stuff it up Benetton and show Gascoyne, who left us before he had really got his feet under the table, he has backed the wrong team," Jordan was quoted as saying in the Sun newspaper on Tuesday.

"We are the ones going places."

Gascoyne announced last year that he had agreed to join Renault-owned Benetton from 2002 but was released from his Jordan contract -- which was due to run until the end of 2001 -- in October after a period of "gardening leave".

Gascoyne's replacement Eghbal Hamidy formally joined the Jordan team from Arrows on Monday.

Jordan finished sixth in last year's constructors' championship after coming third the previous season.

"Last year was a poor one by our standards and we took a lot of lashings," Jordan said, adding that the drivers had done their best but the team had let them down.

"If I felt for one moment that either driver was not making the best use of the equipment -- or anyone else in the team wasn't playing their part -- they would be out."

The Irishman is pinning his hopes for 2001 on team drivers Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Jarno Trulli.
