Jordan hits problems in Barca test

Jordan's first major test with its new EJ13 got off to an inauspicious start when star driver Giancarlo Fisichella was sidelined by a mechanical problem during the morning session at Barcelona today (Monday)

Fisichella, who shook down the chassis at Silverstonme last week, was forced to abandon the car at the side of the track after it broke down. Smoke gently poured from the unliveried car's airbox as he stood waiting for a tow back to the pits.

The Jordan mechanics managed to fix the car by late-afternoon, but after a few installation laps the car was hit by gearbox problems, curtailing its running for the day.

"We did a few installation laps this morning in the wet and just two fairly gentle timed laps," said Fisichella. " We had a problem quite early on which meant we couldn't run until late this afternoon and I only got a couple of laps before a problem with the gearbox stopped us again. It's difficult to get a proper impression of the car on a day like this but I feel there's quite a good response from the car and engine. Let's wait until later in the week to evaluate it properly."

Jordan is scheduled to spend five days testing at the Circuit de Catalunya this week, where it will be joined by BAR, who will be putting further miles on its new 005.
