Jordan: Britain is best for F1

Eddie Jordan believes that Britain is the best country to base a Formula 1 team - and that Prost Grand Prix suffered for staying in France

Speaking at last night's Grand Prix Party at the Albert Hall, the Irishman reiterated his sympathy for rival team boss Alain Prost, who lost his fight to keep his eponymous outfit in business last month. But Jordan added that the four-time world champion left himself at a disadvantage by not taking his advice and moving his team to the UK.

"I remember talking to him before the problems and saying wouldn't he be far better off and not at least consider coming to the UK," Jordan said. "It's far more reasonable in terms of suppliers, people understanding motor racing - and it's cheaper to be able to get things manufactured.

"People here have a much more entrepreneurial idea about their business, more so than with the structure and human resource problems they have in Germany or France where, probably rightly so, there are hour restrictions and stuff. Motor racing in England hasn't and hopefully will never suffer from that.

"People want to work and do the hours that they need to do in specified times and I think that is one of the greatest attributes that Britain has, that it has a very committed workforce, particularly in our trade and in high quality engineering. And I think that's one of the main criteria in why Britain is such an outstanding place to run a Formula 1 team."

Jordan's team is based at a factory opposite the main gates of Silverstone.
