Jordan, Arrows aero tweaks are banned (Updated)

Jarno Trulli and Jos Verstappen will be banned from this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix if they use the new high-downforce aerodynamic tweaks seen on their cars on Thursday, the sport's governing body has warned

Trulli's Jordan and Verstappen's Arrows both sported unique and very different looking additional front aerofoils designed to give extra grip on the tough and twisty Monte Carlo street circuit.

The Arrows team has appealed against the decision to ban its extra wing, but the stewards have already stated that the aerodynamic devices cannot be used pending the outcome of an appeal and it is thought unlikely that the FIA will change its mind.

Verstappen's was a high-mounted aerofoil located on two posts on the nosecone, while Trulli had an extra aerofoil attached to a single post at the front of the cockpit opening.

But FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer examined the new aerodynamic devices on both cars after Thursday's practice sessions and ruled that each new device constituted a dangerous construction according to the FIA's technical regulations.

The race stewards supported his decision, stating they will exclude the relevant car should either device be used again.
