Jerez day 1: Schuey beats Monty
Michael Schumacher set the fastest time on the first day of testing at the Jerez circuit in Spain today (Tuesday), outpacing Juan Pablo Montoya, the only other driver in action at the track
The world champion, concentrating on electronic and tyre developments, drove both the F2002 and the new F2003-GA, and was 0.74s faster in the new machine. Montoya's best lap was a full 3.213s behind Schumacher's quickest time.

New Ferrari test driver Felipe Massa was in action for the team at its private Fiorano test track in Italy today. Working on electronics, Massa completed 37 laps of the circuit, setting a best time of 57.954s.
Kimi Raikkonen set the fastest time on the first day of testing on Silverstone's short circuit today, outpacing Renault driver Jarno Trulli by 0.851s. The Italian was shaking down the French team's R23 chassis that will be used for the opening race in Melbourne, while team-mate Allan McNish conducted suspension work on the 2002 car. McLaren drivers Raikkonen and David Coulthard continued running on the revised MP4-17D.
