Jenson Button Q&A

This time last year Jenson Button was looking very shaky, but after two fourth places in the first three races he has gone a long way to rebuilding the reputation that took such a knock last year. The new Renault is a vast improvement on its predecessor, and Jenson and new team-mate Jarno Trulli are spurring each other on. Brazil indicated that the Renaults can compete with the McLarens, although Ron Dennis insisted that it was a one-off situation and that the silver cars were simply unable to pass after making bad starts. The next few races will tell a more complete story. Adam Cooper spoke to Button about his race at Sepang

"It's fantastic. It's good for the team to get another three points, and it's just a pity that Jarno couldn't finish the race. But these things happen, and it might be the other way round if it happens again. We're quite competitive, and one of the cars was very reliable. I think in the second stint I was very close to McLaren times, if not doing the same times - especially Raikkonen. I'm very happy with the car, although the first stint wasn't the best for me with the problems I had at the rear."

"Well it was exactly the same in terms of the positions we made up. We both went around the outside and then came across. I'm not sure he saw me on the outside, but we both got round the corner OK."

"I had huge amounts of oversteer in the first stint, that was making the car very difficult to drive. But after the pit stop we puts some different tyres on and also changed the front wing, and it made a big improvement and the car was probably the best it had been all weekend, it was very driveable."

"Yeah. If the first stint had been like the second stint we would have been very competitive, and the McLarens wouldn't have got past. That made it very easy for them because under braking I had a lot of oversteer."

"It's really good. I hope Jarno will be there next race, because it's a bit disappointing for him, but these things happen and at least he knows the car is competitive."

"I'm not sure, but I think there will be, engine-wise and aerodynamically."

"I don't think so at the moment. We're still a little bit behind McLaren, but we're pushing and I think we're going to be on top of them soon."
