I'm still title favourite, says Schuey

Ferrari's Michael Schumacher says he is not fazed by the recent form of Williams-BMW and Juan Pablo Montoya, and insists that he is still favourite to win the drivers' world championship

Speaking on the eve of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Schumacher claims that Ferrari's "teamwork" will stand him in good stead for the championship run-in. The five-time champion also believes that the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim a fortnight ago gave a false picture of Montoya's superiority.

"I was on a different strategy, trapped behind Trulli who was P2, and although I'm not saying that I could have been fast enough to win, the margin would have been a lot less," said Michael.

On the subject of the championship run-in, Schumacher said: "Honestly, I am optimistic. I can see a strong opportunity for us. I think we can accept being a little bit behind for one or two more races, so long as we don't lose too many points, and then fight back."

Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn admitted that it was difficult to predict the outcome of the final four races.

"A few races ago I might have made predictions, but not now," said Brawn. "We were strong here in Hungary last year but it now looks like the sort of place that might suit Williams."

Schumacher added: "Obviously it would be nice to win the championship before we got to Suzuka, but if it has to go to the last round, then that's the way it is."
