Horner: Minardi Deal Good for F1

Red Bull Racing's sporting director Christian Horner has welcomed the company's decision to purchase the Minardi Formula One team

"It is a positive thing for Formula One. It is good for Minardi and it is good for all parties," said Horner after Red Bull confirmed they had bought the struggling Minardi squad.

Red Bull said the second team, whose name is still unknown, will be positioned as a "Rookie Team" in which they will place young talents.

Horner said Red Bull Racing and the second team will be completely independent of each other and was sure the Minardi buyout would not distract his own squad from their objectives.

"It is totally separate from Red Bull Racing, it is an independent team and I think it is very positive," he said. "The details will come soon but at the moment a deal has been agreed and that is all. I don't see it having a big effect on this team at all.

"This team is focused on winning and moving up the field, we have a lot of the ingredients in place for next year with the Ferrari engine, the drivers, the wind-tunnel coming on stream at the end of the month, our tyre situation will be sorted a little bit later, so I think Red Bull Racing is looking in very good shape for next year."

Red Bull said no decision has been taken regarding the second team's management or their drivers.

"It is far too early for anything like that but the focus on this team is to run at the front, both teams have different objectives," Horner added. "It is an interesting development, Red Bull have broken new boundaries yet again and I am sure it will be good for Formula One."
