Heidfeld Still Struggling with Car's Balance

Nick Heidfeld complained about his Jordan car's poor balance after struggling in today's qualifying for the United States Grand Prix.

Nick Heidfeld complained about his Jordan car's poor balance after struggling in today's qualifying for the United States Grand Prix.

"We struggled more with our car balance," admitted Heidfeld after finishing in 16th position. "We improved quite a lot over the weekend, but during qualifying the balance was very, very difficult. It will be interesting to see how the others will do with the temperature going up and the wind increasing.

"I think it is more difficult for everybody. As it gets hotter, at least for our car it will make it worse, and if the wind is more gusty, it's worse, as well. My lap was OK, but it was quite the difficult lap because the car was very nervous to drive, a lot worse than this morning. We did improve the car over the weekend."

Heidfeld outqualified his Italian teammate Giorgio Pantano, returning to Grand Prix action after missing the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend. The rookie finished down in 17th place.

"I'm pretty happy about qualifying," said Pantano. "I know I made a little mistake on corners seven and eight, but I'm quite happy because I'm there, I'm not far away and tomorrow we'll see in the race."
