Heidfeld savours 'great' result
German Nick Heidfeld celebrated a "great" result after coming home in second place at the dramatic Canadian Grand Prix
The BMW Sauber driver survived the chaotic race to become the first non-Ferrari or McLaren driver to climb onto the podium this season.
The result allowed Heidfeld to consolidate his fifth place in the standings, now just one point behind Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.
Heidfeld endured a difficult moment during the race, when his teammate Robert Kubica suffered a dramatic accident and there were no news on his condition.
"It was great, definitely a special moment was the start," said Heidfeld. "I had a fantastic start, I overtook Alonso and got in Lewis' slipstream. Then I saw Fernando went a bit too hard and went off.
"In the safety car periods I was not unlucky, but I lost a lot of time, the team did a great job.
"I was lucky to hear Robert was okay. It was difficult to get information and I saw the car by the side of the track."
Heidfeld was critical of the amount of marbles outside the racing line, which made overtaking very hard at the Canadian track.
"It is not acceptable to have so many marbles here again," he said. "It's not just rubber, we saw yesterday, we have had it numerous times. Okay we were the best (drivers) in the world and we keep on line, but we are talking about centimeters."
