Head refusing to make predictions

The team from Grove unveiled their new FW28 today, hoping it will allow them to get back to winning ways after a poor 2005 season.

Williams endured their worst season since 1999 last year, finishing fifth in the Constructors' Championship. They also parted ways with BMW and will now use Cosworth engines.

And although Williams had talked up their chances in this year's championship, Head is keeping his feet on the ground, saying it's too early to predict how competitive they will be.

The Briton, however, says he is optimistic of a strong season.

"We are confident in the engine and, as has been said, we have done a lot more aero development on this car but it is quite difficult when the car has not yet turned a wheel on the track," said Head during the launch of the new car.

"I have been around in this business long enough to know that you don't so much talk up your position. But you don't design a car to finish, you design a car to win and it is only when we get out running we will see exactly whether we have achieved in all areas what we have intended.

"There is some fairly complex steering geometries, suspension geometries that are intended to do certain things and it is not until we get on the track we will find out whether those geometries really do get the best out of the tyres.

"We have a pretty good chassis dynamometer, but it is not so sophisticated that it can simulate all the conditions on the track. But I am optimistic about the 2006 season."
