Hamilton unhappy about qualifying form

Lewis Hamilton says his performances in qualifying this season have been poor, as he reckons he has failed to extract the maximum from his car

The Briton has started from pole position twice in nine races, but in the other seven he has failed to qualify on the front row of the grid.

Hamilton reckons his McLaren car is not making it easy for him to be very strong in qualifying.

"Generally I think my performance in qualifying has been pretty poor this year," said Hamilton. "So I've generally never really extracted the most from the car. I think they (Ferrari) seem to have had a car which is much easier to do so.

"I think for the race I have always put in pretty strong performances, but having a car that is quick in qualifying and quick in the race at the same time is very, very difficult.

"You'll see that Heikki has a quick qualifying car but he's never near me in the race, and that's just because we have our car set up differently."

The Briton says Ferrari's drivers have it easier than him, as he thinks the Italian car handles better in quantifying trim.

"Their car ... when you watch their on-board laps, they're like they are on a Sunday drive. Their car never moves," he added.

"Whereas I'm fighting my car the whole way around, trying to get the thing around, and they are almost like they are on rails. I think if there was points for work done, we'd be way ahead."
