Hamilton not planning to change approach

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton says he is approaching the British Grand Prix just like any other race, but he admits the weekend will be special for him

"I approach every race exactly the same as I have the first race and I won't change that, I think it is important," Hamilton told reporters at Silverstone.

"Obviously we have to learn as much from each weekend, I am still learning and still trying to perfect the weekend, even the wins could have been better, so I am just trying to be consistent and it is all about consistency, so we have to keep on getting podiums hopefully."

The McLaren rookie arrives at his home race with a 14-point lead over teammate Fernando Alonso and with high hopes of becoming the first Briton to win at Silverstone since David Coulthard in 2000.

"In one way it is just another race and you have to score points, but it feels extra special because it is my home Grand Prix," Hamilton added.

"Last year I had an amazing race in GP2 and a lot of that is to do with the fact that you feel more comfortable, you don't have to fly anywhere.

"I am seeing more and more British fans in the grandstand, and to be here it will be completely packed and I hope we won't see too many reds, you will see a lot more whites, and I am looking forward to that side of things."

Hamilton looks set to face tough opposition from Ferrari this weekend, after the Italian squad scored a dominant one-two in France last Sunday.

The McLaren driver, however, insisted that his team's strategy in Magny-Cours made Ferrari looked stronger than they actually were.

"I hope it goes well, obviously we have taken a lot from the last weekend," he said. "We have analysed a lot and come back here as strong as we have been in the past and I don't see why we can't come here and be as competitive as the Ferraris.

"I have to try and do the same job as always, try and be consistent and bring the car home for some good points for me and the team.

"It hasn't been a week so there is no big answer (to Ferrari's pace). You cannot pull our a miracle like that. You have to analyse the weekend, I think they looked a little faster and they looked a bit better than they were."
