Grosjean to test for Pirelli at Monza

Romain Grosjean will conduct Pirelli's next Formula 1 test at Monza next week after being drafted in as replacement for Nick Heidfeld, AUTOSPORT can reveal

The Franco-Swiss, who has most recently raced in GP2 after an aborted switch to sportscars earlier this year, will have his seat-fitting in the Toyota TF109 that Pirelli is using for its preliminary tests tomorrow.

Heidfeld had been appointed as Pirelli's official development driver after getting a release from his Mercedes GP test role, but has now quit that position after securing a race seat with Sauber. His last run with the team was at Jerez in Spain this week.

A number of drivers had been linked with the Pirelli role - including Pedro de la Rosa - but Grosjean has been given the nod for next week's Monza running.

AUTOSPORT understands that the agreement with Grosjean is just for next week's test so far, with a decision on who drives beyond that waiting until after the running is complete.
