Grosjean plans to keep cautious approach in the Indian Grand Prix

Romain Grosjean intends to maintain his cautious approach to grand prix starts for the rest of this season

The Lotus driver survived the Korean Grand Prix trouble-free to finish seventh and score valuable points for Lotus, having driven off the track to avoid contact on the first lap.

And the Frenchman, who received a one-race ban for causing an accident at the start of the Belgian Grand Prix and a stop-go penalty for taking out Mark Webber on the first lap at Suzuka, says that Yeongam marked the first phase of his self-imposed rehabilitation.

"It's the first step of a new foundation, and I will keep the same approach during all the weekend here," he said in India on Thursday.

"It was quite important for me, for the team, for everybody, to score points and get to the end of the race and having a strong race.

"As I say, it's a cycle, it has been one incident, and then a few and I'm not always responsible and then it gets worse and worse," he added. "Then you start to ask yourself questions and you lose the self confidence and everything gets harder, this is why today I really want to take a different, safer approach during the last races of the season.

"I'm trying to build it back, and as I said from next year I am trying to have a normal starts and everything will be back to normal I'm sure."

Grosjean added that he was aware that having to be so cautious made him vulnerable to attack from other drivers, and that they knew it too.

"They are already taking advantage of it," he said. "They know I am under, a little bit less today, but big pressure and they will try to go for it which is normal.

"But as I say, never mind that, if they overtake on the first lap I can get back the position later on."

Grosjean looks set to stay at Lotus in 2013 and said that he was grateful that it had stood by him through his turbulent summer.

"I think we have been analysing everything together and they have been supporting me, and I'm very glad and very happy to be here and this is where I think we want to go a long time together," he said. "That's the idea.

"I feel very good here and especially the car is good as well, which helps, and the faith the team showed me was very important at a difficult time."
