Grapevine: Schuey in '100 Most Influential' List

The reigning Formula One World Champion is one of only five sporting figures to have made the list, which will appear in tomorrow's edition of the international magazine.

Along with Schumacher, NBA All-Star LeBron James and sailor Ellen MacArthur are the other sportspersons. Two more sporting related men on the list are Chelsea soccer team owner Roman Abramovich and World Anti-Doping Agency chief Richard Pound.

The list comprises of figures from 31 countries and includes names from the entertainment and fashion industry, along with famous - and infamous - world leaders.

The 100 selected names have shaped the world in some way, the magazine editors said. "It really shows the breadth of human endeavor," Time editor Jim Kelly said. "Influence can be defined in a myriad of ways."

For every selected newsmaker, the magazine invited a known figure to profile the selected person. Writing on Schumacher, who won an unprecedented seven F1 World Championship titles, Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason wrote: "Watching Schumacher compete is a chance to see the most complete driver the world has known give a master class in motor racing."
