Grapevine: Ron Dennis Has No Plans to Retire Just Yet

McLaren's managing director Ron Dennis has said he is looking forward to enjoying life away from Formula One, but he has no retirement plans at present.

McLaren's managing director Ron Dennis has said he is looking forward to enjoying life away from Formula One, but he has no retirement plans at present.

"I think it's normal in any company that there comes a time when the right thing to do is to stop," the 54-year-old said at the US grand prix in Indianapolis yesterday, when asked about the retirement of his team co-ordinator Jo Ramirez. "Personally I hope I can do it before 60, that's my intention. I don't have a plan at the moment but I do think the important thing is to enjoy your life.

"While motor racing does give you tremendous job satisfaction, it's quite a stressful form of making your living and you're not immune. I've been doing it since 1966 and I still feel the ups and downs very significantly. I would quite look forward to actually having a normal life, but I have no intention of retiring at the moment.

"I think that people in my position - part owner of a large organisation - rarely stop going to work one day. The bottom line is, I am very committed to the team and I still enjoy it, so there's no reason why I should stop."
