Grapevine: Montoya to host karting event

Juan Pablo Montoya will return to action in his native Colombia this weekend when he plays host in the second Race of Stars karting event

The Colombian has put on the race through the streets of Cartagena to help raise funds for his Formula Smiles Foundations, which helps underprivileged children. It follows the success of the inaugural event in 2003.

Montoya has attracted an amazing line-up of drivers from both Formula One and American racing series. McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa arrived in Colombia on Wednesday, while Red Bull Racing's Christian Klien and Vitantonio Liuzzi are on the their way.

New Midland signed Christijan Albers and former Williams race driver Antonio Pizzonia will also compete.

Indy Racing League champion Dan Wheldon will be joined by two-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves and Roger Yasukawa as representatives from American single-seaters.

Practice will take place on Saturday with the race set for Sunday, where more than 10,000 people are expected to attend. The event will also be broadcast live on television in Colombia and Latin America.
