Grapevine: Lola to celebrate 50th anniversary

The event, which will take place on 12 October, will feature a symbolic parade of racing cars taking to the streets of the Cambridgeshire town.

Lola, winners in Formula One, Le Mans, the Daytona 24 Hours, Can-Am, Champ Car and the Indy 500, has produced close to 4,000 race cars during those 50 years.

A selection of Lola's most famous cars will set off from their headquarters in Huntingdon and travel through a designated route via the local ring road, finishing in Huntingdon's market square.

"It was a lot different here in Huntingdon when we moved up from Slough in 1971," said Lola founder Eric Broadley. "I think it was just a few businesses in this area and the big water tower and that was it!

"I am pleased to see Lola still racing all over the world. It is good to see the success at Le Mans because we first went there in 1960 with the Mk1.

"Martin (Birrane, Lola chairman) presented me with a copy of the 50th anniversary poster and looking at all the designs since 1958 was a wonderful trip down memory lane. He even reminded me that he beat our works team with his own T292 in 1973. It must have been a fluke!"
