Grapevine: Heidfeld takes F1 to BMW factory
Nick Heidfeld delighted the workers of BMW's Munich plant on Wednesday when he took the F1.08 for a demonstration run in the factory
The event was organised to thank the employees at the plant for their support in BMW's Formula One programme.
"It is nice to give the workforce something back," said Heidfeld.
Watched by over 5,000 employees, Heidfeld performed several "donuts", which eventually cost him a front wing.
WTCC driver Jorg Muller was also out and about at the plant with his BMW 320si.
"We're well aware that a lot of people in the various departments are keenly following our fortunes and have bets on our results," said BMW motorsport boss Mario Theissen.
"However, it is not possible to involve the workforce properly at the circuits, so we had to come up with something special instead.
"It is wonderful to see the BMW employees getting behind the sport. Support from within the company really helps us and gives us extra incentives.
"If we continue to pull together in this way then we will be well set to achieve that maiden GP victory we have set our sights on for 2008."
