Grapevine: British GP Not Affected by Foot-And-Mouth

The British Grand Prix is not in danger of being suspended unless the current foot-and-mouth disease outbreak worsens in the United Kingdom.

As revealed by The Daily Grapevine earlier this month, the foot-and-mouth disease threatens all motorsport events, especially those held near agricultural lands, as is the case with the Silverstone race.

However, Britain's Motor Sport Association (MSA) has confirmed that the Northamptonshire circuit is not under threat so far.

"Silverstone already has a track certificate and that is issued after we have made checks on such things as crash barriers, gravel tracks and the position of marshals," said Colin Wilson, from the British Motor Sport Association.

"We are checking daily with the government regarding the foot-and-mouth situation. But that is to do with all of the events we are concerned with on a national basis and not just Silverstone, we are not making daily checks about just Silverstone."

Foot-and-mouth disease affects animals with cloven hooves such as pigs, sheep and cows and it can travel miles by air or on clothing or vehicle tyres.

The British Grand Prix is scheduled for July 15.
