‘Good day’ for spinning McLarens

Both David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen went spinning during practice for the German Grand Prix, but were reasonably pleased with the sessions

The McLaren team spent the time trying a range of different options in order to find a good set-up for Sunday's race, and team boss Ron Dennis admitted practice had been 'a little messy.'

Coulthard commented on the difference between last week's race circuit in Austria and the high-speed environment of Hockenheim.

He said, 'It's quite a contrast to come from Austria to Hockenheim which requires low downforce and very high speeds.

'A case of really getting a feel for the car on this bumpy circuit, I had one little off as I entered the stadium, but that's what it is all about, finding your limits.'

Hakkinen seemed to be getting as close to the edge as possible as well this morning, but he was still upbeat in spite of his spin.

'It was a good day's practice as I worked hard with the guys to get the right balance for the car,' he said.

'I had one spin, I didn't lose much time because of it, but I did find the limit of the car.'
