Gene fastest at wet Jerez
Ferrari test driver Marc Gene was fastest at Jerez today as Bridgestone teams tested wet tyres on an artificially wet track
Gene was just over a tenth faster than Toyota's tester Ricardo Zonta, though Gene did not have a troublefree day. Clutch problems cost him track time as well as causing one of two red flags during the day.
Williams driver Nico Rosberg was third fastest and within two-tenths of Zonta, as he completed 106 laps, the most of the day.
Rounding out the day's runners was Midland's Tiago Monteiro and Christijan Albers, whose fastest times were over two seconds slower than Rosberg's. A Midland driver brought out the other red flag of the day when he spun.
Bridgestone Motorsport technical manager Hisao Suganuma was happy with how things went: "It was a very good test, it is good to have lots of teams. This is the second wet test, we have already narrowed the specs from Valencia and we can narrow further from here.
"It is what's called shallow wet or standard wet tyre test, and we can see the directions for the next year's spec. The condition was so consistent here in Jerez, that we got good data from this test."
