Friday test teams aim to reap benefits

Both Renault and Jaguar, two of the four teams that get an extra two hours of running on grand prix Fridays, believe that the rainy weather conditions of free practice and qualifying could play into their hands during the rest of the weekend in Canada

They enjoyed two hours of dry running this morning, which should give them an advantage over the opposition if the showers stay away from Saturday's final qualifying session and the race on Sunday.

"The data we gathered during our two 'Heathrow' hours this morning has been our most valuable exercise today," said Renault's engine operations manager Denis Chevrier. "Given that our direct competitors could only complete very limited dry running in free practice, our work today could prove significant for the rest of the weekend."

Jaguar's head of vehicle performance Mark Gillan said: "We achieved a lot of mileage this morning and it's a shame the qualifying session was so wet. We are, however, very well prepared for the weekend ahead."
