Frentzen praises Indy circuit

Jordan's Heinz Harald Frentzen has declared himself impressed with the Indianapolis Grand Prix circuit that the F1 circus will visit for the first time in September

The German claimed that the circuit will allow more overtaking opportunities than any other on the current calendar.

"There could be overtaking out of turn one, up to two and then at three. I think the racetrack will give us some possibility here," he claimed, adding: "this should give us an exciting race".

Frentzen suggested that the mixture of ultra-fast oval and technical infield would make finding the right set-up a more crucial issue than at many circuits. "The fact that we are running on half an oval track makes the situation completely different for us," he said.

"That means we will be able to reach incredibly high speeds if we want to. We will need to find a compromise between being fast on the straight but also fast in the infield."

Frentzen felt cars could hit up to 180mph on the quickest part of the track, due to the fast banked bend at the beginning of the 0.8 mile pit straight.

Regarding the top speeds achievable, Frentzen said "the only circuit that comes close to resembling this one is Hockenheim."
